Southside Virginia Community College International Studies Program SVCC is currently planning its trip to China as the Spring 2008 trip abroad.
Dear Fellow Travelers:
This year we are going to China (February 28-March 8, 2008) for 10 full days of action and excitement. The trip includes visits to the fascinating cities of Beijing, Xian and Shanghai.
Please read this letter in its entirety before making a decision. I have made some changes that best reflect the intent of this program and protect the integrity of the college.
First, this is a student-centered academic program, and the academic integrity must be maintained all times. Our tour guides serve as experts in their fields, and they are utilized to help provide the academic component to our trip. Without their expertise, it would be impossible to see and understand all the hidden secrets of China. Our tour guide is available to us the whole time we are in China. The price is based on a student rate; therefore, we stay in three star hotels only. This is not a shopping trip, but shopping is included.
Second, all travelers must be physically mobile to keep up with the group without assistance from group members. There is a lot of walking on this trip and one need to physically fit.
Third, each traveler must be a United States citizen with a U.S passport valid for six months from the date of travel (February 28).
Fourth, the food will be different from what you are accustomed to eating, and it is not like the American Chinese food. Come with an open mind to try something different; however, breakfast is more western style.
Fifth, everyone is required to send a late fee check of $100 and a tip check for $100 made payable to Dr. Percy Richardson with their initial deposit and if you fail to do so, your deposit will be returned. I will need a photocopy of your passport when you make your deposit.
Finally, there is nothing perfect in this world and things do happen that is out of our control; therefore, NO COMPLAINING!!
The total price for the trip is $2,515 per person, and is based on double occupancy with 60 paid passengers. This is an all inclusive package with FlO USA Trip Protection Plan (traveler’s insurance). The price does not include your visa fee which you are responsible for getting prior to leaving for China. If you are travel alone, please submit a separate check for the single supplement of $395. 00. If I can find you a roommate, I will return your check. However, if the individual cancels, you are required to pay the single supplement.
I will need a $1,000 down payment by June 10, $1,000 payment by August 20, and the remaining balance by October 15. You can pay the full amount. Make your check payable to FLO USA, Inc. or you can pay with a credit card which will be handled directly by FLO USA. If you decide to pay with a credit card, please let me know so I can keep an accurate count of the number of people going on this trip.
Please be prompt in submitting your payment(s) because you can forfeit the guarantee rate of $2,515 if you are late with your payment(s). By meeting the payment deadlines with FLO USA, we are guaranteed this price even if there is an increase in airfare and airport and fuel taxes.
I have enclosed a copy of the itinerary, the Terms and Conditions, credit form and a reservation form. I will be mailing more forms that are required for this trip in mid October. Please read all the documents with great care before making a decision, and if you decide to go, please return all the required forms in a timely manner.
While having fun, enroll in one of our international courses (International Business or history/humanities). Each course carries 3 college credits and is taught by full-time faculty.
